This companion piece to Trimount in 1630 shows the changes that had taken place in the Boston landscape during 200 years of settlement. View of Boston from the Northeast shows Boston in 1830, following the recent leveling of Beacon Hill for development. By this time the name Trimount had evolved into Tremont, giving its name to one of the city’s streets. Around the time Gerry and Burt created these panels, their work was already receiving notice. On February 4, 1835, the Columbian Centinel reported, “Both of these young gentlemen are worthy of patronage and give evidence of their capability of doing a handsome thing in a handsome manner.”
