Gerry stayed for part of at least 31 sketching seasons at this “pleasant hotel,” as later noted by the Concord newspaper the Independent Statesman. He often left his family at this hotel in West Campton for several weeks while he traveled deep into the White Mountains sketching and painting. Sanborn’s Hotel eventually became a “favorite rendezvous” for artists and in 1875 even hosted an artists’ exhibition and reception.
