In the late 1850s and early 1860s, Gerry kept a studio from November through May in Boston’s Mercantile Library Association building on Summer Street. The library association’s section, situated at the right end of the row of connected buildings seen here, contained ten studios with skylights, especially for artists’ use, as well as a hall where art exhibitions took place.
